Church Clothes

Why are white shirts and ties for little boys so expensive? They never go on sale either. I love how Isaac looks all dressed up for church but I definitely cannot afford paying $17 on a white shirt for someone who is going to out grow it is 3 months. Ties last a little longer but are still at least $10 a piece. If you can find them cheaper somewhere please let me know.

Anyway, I saw some cute little boy ties for sale on esty but those were $15 plus shipping. So I thought to myself, "If someone else can make little boy ties so can I." So I got to work. I started first with an old tie of Glenn's and just made it smaller. It worked, but I saw some mistakes so I made another. I saw a few more mistakes so I made another and have finally settled on an awesome pattern and design for my "Little Man Tie." I love them and could not be happier.
I also made a couple bow ties a while ago but the pattern I used was too big for Isaac so little man bow ties are going to have to wait! The tie on the right was my first. I am happy with it but like the last one (blue argyle) I made much better.

After making the tie I needed a shirt. I found a button up shirt pattern on sale for a dollar so I snagged that and made my first "Little Man" white, collard church shirt. The best part about this shirt is that I used one of Glenn's old shirts that we were going to give away anyway. Which made the shirt FREE!!! After I was done with Glenn's shirt it looked like this:Completely cut up. I even reused the buttons. I didn't have to buy a thing! The pattern was near impossible to understand but I worked it out and am only slightly disappointed with the way it turned out. He, however looks adorable!
You can't see the tiny little pocket (which is my favorite part) but it's there!
So after all was said and done, I spent:
1st tie- $0.97 (Glenn's old tie + bow tie clasp)
2nd tie- $0 (I already had the fabric and haven't yet put a clasp on it)
3rd tie- $4.16 (I even made 2 ties out of it and gave the other away so I bought 2 clasps)
White shirt- $1 for the pattern

total cost for 3 ties and a shirt- $6.13
AWESOME!!!

I usually get lucky with white shirts at kid's resale shops, like Kid to Kid. Occasionally I can find them at the goodwill but not often. And I love repurposing Eric's old ties for Scotty! I put elastic in around the neck so it fits over his ginormous head but doesn't sag around his neck (and it's cheap). Eric wants me to try a velcro closure so that's next on the list--I'll let you know if it works!

I agree with Grandma, it makes me feel highly un-talented;) BUT! He looks adorable and I'm very impressed.
